NI Water Repair and Maintenance Contract

Mills Contracts, as a partner in Meridian Utilities Ltd, are involved in the delivery of four main areas of work under this Contract. These being

Water network services which includes:-

    • Water main connections, extensions, alterations and repairs including new connections in housing developments and cut and prove of water Supply Pipes;
    • The repair of leaks on Service Pipes, water mains and major trunk mains, for all types of pipe material up to and including 750mm diameter;
    • Provision and laying of water mains up to 300m in length and up to 300mm diameter;
    • Repair /replace private Supply Pipes, fittings, fitting chambers, Service Pipes, stop-cock chambers, integrated boundary boxes and street furniture;
    • Separation of water Supply Pipes;
    • Service pipe connections;
    • Lead pipe replacements;
    • Boundary valve, PRV, flow meter and reservoir inlet control;
    • Internal washing of service reservoirs;
    • Programmed flushing of water networks;
    • Burst isolation and recharging of networks to enable repairs;
    • Permanent and temporary reinstatement of all Surface Groups;
    • Swabbing, chlorinating and pressure testing of new water mains;
    • Trenchless techniques for repair/laying of water mains;
    • Water booster station installations, i.e. plinths, kiosks, ducting and pipework (M&E plant and control installations by Others).
    • Any other work associated with the water network including small project work.

 

  • Wastewater network services which includes:-
    • Manhole construction and repair;
    • Minor sewer pipework installations;
    • New sewer connections including extensions in single and common trenches;
    • Trenchless techniques for repair/laying of sewers;
    • Testing of sewers and manholes;
    • Submersible sewage pumping stations installations – manhole chamber construction and refurbishment (M&E plant and control installations by Others);
    • Any other work associated with the wastewater network including small project work.

 

  • Metering services which includes:-
    • New connection metering which is the compulsory metering of all non-domestic new connections to the mains supply;
    • Selective metering which covers meters installed at the behest of the Employer;
    • Optant metering which covers meters installed as per non-domestic Customer requests, where practicable;
    • Proactive meter maintenance which is a programme for the replacement of existing meters, and meter chambers based on meter age and overall consumption;
    • Reactive meter maintenance which covers repairs and replacements of meters of all sizes, boundary boxes, chambers, valves and strainers in support of metered billing activities;
    • Data quality surveys on either metered or un-measured premises to ascertain more detailed information about the water supply arrangement to the Affected Property;
    • Any other work associated with the metering services including small project work.

 

  • Plant hire services which includes supply of a range of plant (with and without operators) to support the NIW’s in-house staff and provide Major Incident support. Items include (but are not limited to):-
    • Excavators and lorries;
    • Potable water tankers;
    • Sludge tankers (mainly Major Incident support);
    • Vans and 4×4 vehicles;
    • Tractor units;
    • Sludge pumps;
    • Potable water pumps;
    • Cranes;
    • Small items of plant and tools;
    • Any other plant hire requirements associated with the range of services.

 

The majority of the tasks, except for minor infrastructure improvements, are of a short duration throughout Northern Ireland in a diverse environment ranging from congested urban areas to remote rural areas.
