Evishagaran Wind Farm Grid Connection

Mills Contracts Ltd, were contracted on behalf of Omexom Ireland & Renewables to complete the construction of the contestable grid connection of Evishagaran Wind Farm to the new NIE Agivey 110kV cluster substation. The scope of supply of the ICP Contractor was the civil and electrical works required for a double 33kV underground cable circuit (duplex configuration). The approximate total cable route length between the Evishagaran 33kV site substation and the proposed location of the Agivey 110kV cluster substation is 6.75 km. To construct this underground cable grid connection contestably, Mills Contracts Ltd needed to be Lloyds accredited as Independent Connection Provider (ICP) as per NIE Functional Specification Guidelines

The provision of Excavation, Cable Laying & Reinstatement Works associated with:

  • The excavation and reinstatement of trenches and joint holes.
  • Directional drilling across streams and the Agivey River in rock
  • Installation of 33KV electricity cables and related equipment (including underground fibre optic pulling & splicing chambers, auxiliary cables, ducts, etc.)
  • Cable Jointing of 33kV Cables.
  • Alteration works to raise bridge parapet walls to facilitate efficient cover to the new cable circuit.
  • Management of Street Works activities including signing, lighting and guarding of works to Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual
